Demonstratives

Demonstratives:

This (plural - these) and that (plural - those ) are called demonstratives. They can be used both as adjectives and as pronouns. They point to somebody (some people) or something (s). They tell us which one.

This is my pen.                                        (pronoun)

These are his excuses.                           (pronoun)

This is a better car than that..                 (pronoun)

That (plural - those) is used to avoid the repetition of the preceding noun.

   My shirt is better than that of my friend.  Our soldiers are better equipped than those of Pakistan.
